Bubba’s Closet
Bubba’s Closet will have 1,500 fleece jackets (yes, that’s a lot!) to hand out this year thanks to six LPS high school’s and the Lincoln community’s plastic recycling efforts last spring. ‘Return the Warmth’ was a national program sponsored by Keep America Beautiful. The top 50 schools in the country each receive a $1,000 gift card from Sam’s Club AND 250 fleece jackets -Bryan, Southeast and Lincoln High were in the top 50! The top 100 schools each receive 250 fleece jackets – and East, Northeast and North Star were in the top 100. (The fleece jackets are made from recycled plastic beverage bottles)
Also, local recycling venders contributed a ‘penny a pound’ for all the plastic they collected last spring at the schools, curbside programs, and city drop off sites. Thanks to their generosity, the Elementary Principals Emergency fund will have over $2,700 to distribute this year. (Plus $3,000 from Sam’s Club gift cards and 1,500 fleece jackets!)
